Making a difference
United Inner City Services believes that, together with a caring community, we can make bigger strides and accomplish more with high quality early learning. We strive to make our early childhood education programs accessible and affordable as only 35% of four year-olds in Kansas City are enrolled in pre-K.
Studies have found that for every $1 invested in early learning programs there were returns ranging from $4 to $9 in the form of reduced costs for special education, welfare, and crime. High quality programs like those at St. Mark Center and Metro Center not only promote healthy development of children, but also minimize the need for more expensive interventions later in a child’s life.
Children who receive quality early education are:
- more likely to graduate from high school
- less likely to become a teen parent
- twice as likely to attend college
- more likely to avoid special education, grade repetition, early parenthood, and incarceration.

Together, our efforts make a significant impact in the life of each child, the future of each family, and the well-being of our community, country, and our world.
